This role is for a 6 month Kickstart placement , and will be for 25 hours per week. All applications should be submitted only after consultation with your Job Centre+ Work Coach for a Kickstart placement, and regrettably, we are only able to consider applications that have been referred by a Work Coach.

The main purposes of the Kickstart Junior Fitter/Fabricator role are: 

  • To assist in welding and mechanical fitting work in a maintenance environment
  • Carrying out mechanical repairs to a wide variety of manufacturing equipment
  • To ensure equipment is safe and efficient to operate 
  • With training and supervision, the Kickstart Junior Fitter/Fabricator will: 

  • Assist in the manufacture of steel fabrications using welding equipment and tools 
  • Manufacture steel fabrications following instructions and guidance 
  • Produce working drawings/sketches of items to be manufactured 
  • Carry out mechanical fitting operations on extruder lines, eg pump replacement
  • Produce a log-book of the tasks carried out, detailing safety precautions, method, tools used 
  • Each task will be assessed by Welder/Fabricator and or Maintenance Supervisor, with respect to quality, housekeeping, safety and adherence to specification and will be signed off to complete a log-book

  • Flexibility and willingness to learn
  • Experience of using hand tools would be beneficial
  • This role is for 25 hours per week, for a 6 month period. The working hours would be between 06:00 and 14:00, Monday to Friday.
