Job Description

To source and create news content for the Barbour service. Monitor and research industry activity, legislative and official guidance changes and report on these. To assist with the summarising of legislation relating to health, safety and environment. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the health, safety and environment sectors, including legal governance and compliance. To produce content in line with Barbour standards relating to quality, accuracy, coverage and the fulfilment of user expectations. To work to production deadlines.


  • Sourcing and identifying news, prosecutions and document content for coverage, on a weekly basis. Content should be relevant, topical and of interest to our subscriber base.
  • Writing news content, encompassing prosecutions, news and summarising reports, guidance and consultations. Covering the services health and safety, environment and energy, estates and facilities management and international. For publication basis will vary between daily and weekly.
  • To provide cover for the Assistant Editor role in the creation of the full suite of news.
  • To oversee and work with production resource in the processing and publication of news content.
  • Define the Barbour service home page news coverage.
  • Summarise UK, Irish and EU legislation relating to health, safety and environment topics. Work to a defined template outlining summary topic coverage.
  • Research legislative topics and become familiar with official sources of guidance.
  • Proof and quality check summary content produced by other writers.
  • Manage the summary production process via a bespoke CMS.
  • Enter summary content onto the CMS.
  • Assist with writing, summarising and proofing content for our international offering.
  • Ensure the correctness, accuracy, usability and clarity of news and summary content.
  • To work to and define production deadlines and be comfortable working under pressure.

  • Able to work as a part of team.
  • Experience of CMS systems.
  • Ideally an understanding of UK legislation and legal governance.
  • Ideally an understanding of, or experience in health, safety and environment sectors.
